Hello. So, it’s been awhile. Have I been saying that too much lately?
Well, there’s a reason for that. Actually, there are a few reasons, but let’s just focus on the most interesting. For a few months now (years really if you count the time spent discussing and planning) a few friends of mine and I have been working on a new… blog I guess is how you’d define it. These three friends and I have known each other for over 10 years but have never had the luck of living in the same city (at least not since we were all in college together 8+ years ago, yikes). We’re all spread out now, but no matter the unavoidable distance they’re still the closest friends I have. We see each other a few times a year and text, gchat, facetime, tweet, facebook, instagram, and the list goes on, as much as we can. But we’ve always wanted to start a book club together, but that’s a bit difficult considering we don’t live in the same state. So, that’s what led us to start The Bookly Club.
It’s an online-only book club hosted by the four of us: Katherine, Katharine, Kathryn, and Kathryn. Oh, did I not mention we all have the same name? It’s just a happy coincidence. But it’s quite entertaining when we’re all together, and if we meet someone new they never believe us as we go down the line and introduce ourselves. Anyway, we’ll be reading a new book each month and posting our thoughts, criticisms, praise at the end of the month.
Speaking of months, each has its own theme. I’ve always read books according to the time of year, and Bookly does the same thing. Each book follows a certain monthly theme that we’ve set up. For example, this month is the Screenplay month… since Hollywood’s awards season just wrapped, we’re reading a book that’s been made into a movie – Still Alice – to compare and contrast. Also, I’m planning on re-designing the book covers for some of the books that we read, which should be a fun design project.
We’re encouraging others to join, read along with us, comment/discuss, follow, participate, etc. Hope you’ll check it out!
